Translation File Import
Translation File Import brings a source subtitle file and a target subtitle file into Closed Caption Creator as a linked translation pair. Use this when a vendor or previous workflow has already produced both languages as files, and you want to edit them side by side in a Translation Event Group instead of importing each file separately.
This is not the same as AI Tools → Translation Import, which downloads completed automatic-translation jobs from the cloud. For that dashboard, see Automatic Translation. Opening the import dialog​
Navigate to File → Import, choose Translation, and click Next. This opens the Translation File Import dialog.
Set the translation Event Group Display Name, Source Language, and Target Language. Use Right to Left for the target language and Source is Right to Left when the source language is RTL. The display name defaults to the target filename after you pick that file, unless you have already edited it.
Selecting source and target files​
The dialog has two panes: Source File on the left and Target File on the right. Each pane uses the same format support as Subtitle File Import. The source and target files can use different extensions and decoding profiles.
Click each file picker, confirm the profile when more than one is available for that extension, and check the source preview so the file is being read correctly. More Options on each pane exposes incode, clock time, frame rate, drop frame, file encoding, drop-frame conversion, and format-specific decoding options.
Import stays disabled until both files have loaded.
What import creates​
Click Import Translation. Closed Caption Creator decodes both files with the same offset, overlap, speaker, and drop-frame cleanup used by subtitle import. Offset and overlap prompts appear once and apply to both files.
The result is two Event Groups:
- A subtitle Event Group named from the source filename, using the source language and source RTL setting. Its Events are the decoded source file.
- A translation Event Group using the display name, target language, and target RTL setting. Each Event holds target text plus overlapping source text as original (source) text. The translation group is linked to the source group so Event Group Sync and related tools have a source to attach to.
The editor selects the translation group when import finishes so you can review the bilingual track immediately.
When to use this import​
Use Translation File Import when you receive a source-language file and a translated file together — for example a vendor delivery, a bilingual archive, or two exports from another tool. Importing them as a linked pair keeps timing aligned and shows source text beside the translation while you QC and restyle.
Import a single language track with Subtitle File Import. Generate a translation from an Event Group already in the project with Automatic Translation. Merge two Event Groups that are already in the project with Translation Merge.
Troubleshooting​
If a preview looks garbled, change that pane's file encoding and reload. If Events land at the wrong time, check that pane's frame rate, drop frame, and incode. If the source group is missing after import, confirm both files loaded and that import completed without an error toast.
If the translation group is not linked, open Event Group Options → Settings on the translation group and set Linked Group to the imported source group, then use Event Group Sync if you need to copy properties.
