File Menu
The File Menu provides access to core project lifecycle operations including creating new projects and event groups, opening existing work, saving your progress, and managing file imports and exports. This menu serves as the primary entry point for all file-related operations in Closed Caption Creator.
New
The New submenu allows you to create either a new project or a new event group within your current project. When creating a new project, you define the foundational settings including frame rate, drop frame mode, project name, and initial event group configuration. These settings establish the timing framework for all caption and subtitle work within that project. Creating a new event group adds an additional caption or subtitle track to your existing project, allowing you to manage multiple language versions, different caption types, or separate audio description tracks within a single project file.
Open Project
The Open Project command provides access to your saved projects. In the online version of Closed Caption Creator, this option launches the Storage Explorer interface, which displays all projects stored in your cloud workspace organized by folders and recent activity. The Storage Explorer supports team collaboration features including project sharing, permissions management, and version history when working within a team environment.
When working in offline mode or using the desktop application with local storage enabled, the Open Project command instead launches a file browser that allows you to select a project file from your local file system. This mode is designed for studio workflows, remote locations, or environments where cloud connectivity is unavailable or restricted.
Open Recent
The Open Recent command displays a list of your most recently accessed projects, allowing you to quickly return to active work without navigating through the full Storage Explorer or file system. This feature tracks your project history and provides one-click access to projects you have worked on in recent sessions.
Save
The Save function preserves your current project state including all event groups, timing data, metadata, speaker assignments, and project settings. The save behavior adapts based on your current working mode and storage configuration.
In online mode, the Save command uploads your project to cloud storage with automatic versioning and snapshot management. Cloud saves support team collaboration features including real-time sync, change tracking, and the ability to restore previous versions through the snapshot history system.
When working offline or with local storage enabled, the Save command writes your project file to your local file system. Offline saves create standard project files that can be transferred between systems, backed up to external storage, or uploaded to cloud storage when connectivity is restored. The desktop application supports automatic save intervals and backup file generation to protect against data loss during extended editing sessions.
Import
The Import function opens the file import modal, which supports multiple input formats for captions, subtitles, transcripts, and project files. The import system handles industry-standard formats including SCC, MCC, SRT, VTT, STL, and various transcript formats from supported transcription providers. When importing subtitle files, you can configure import options including character encoding, frame rate conversion, and formatting preservation.
Plain text imports are also supported, allowing you to bring in raw transcript data or script files that can be timed and formatted within the application. The import system intelligently detects file formats and applies appropriate parsing rules while providing customization options when format ambiguity exists.
Export
The Export command launches the comprehensive export modal, which provides access to all supported output formats and export configurations. You can export individual event groups as subtitle files in formats including SCC, MCC, SRT, VTT, STL, and others based on your delivery requirements. The export system supports format-specific options including character sets, positioning data, styling preservation, and compliance with broadcast specifications.
Beyond subtitle exports, this modal also provides access to specialized exports including video rendering with burnt-in subtitles, audio description mix exports, transcript documents, dialogue lists, and Combined Continuity and Spotting Lists (CCSL). Export presets can be configured to streamline repeated export operations for standard delivery formats.
Batch Export
Batch Export enables simultaneous export of multiple event groups in one operation, which is essential when delivering multilingual content or multiple caption formats from a single project. This feature allows you to select multiple event groups and apply consistent export settings across all selected tracks. Batch export supports format conversion, meaning you can export the same source material to different output formats in a single operation, which is valuable for cross-platform distribution workflows.
View
The View submenu appears only in the desktop application and provides interface controls for zoom level adjustment and fullscreen mode. Zoom controls allow you to adjust the interface scaling to accommodate different display sizes and resolution preferences. Fullscreen mode maximizes the application window to eliminate distractions and provide additional screen space for editing work.
Logout
The Logout command ends your current session and returns you to the login screen. This operation is important when working on shared systems or when switching between user accounts. Logout ensures your credentials are cleared from the current session and your work is properly saved before ending the session.
Exit
The Exit command appears only in the desktop application and completely closes the Closed Caption Creator application. Before exiting, the system checks for unsaved changes and prompts you to save your work if modifications have been made since the last save operation. This safeguard prevents accidental data loss when closing the application.
