Theme Menu

The Theme Menu controls the visual appearance of the Closed Caption Creator interface by selecting between light and dark color schemes or allowing automatic theme selection based on your system preferences. Theme selection affects the overall interface appearance including background colors, text colors, panel borders, button styles, and contrast levels throughout the application.

Light Theme

The Light Theme presents the interface with bright background colors and dark text, following traditional application design conventions for daytime use or well-lit environments. Light theme backgrounds use white and light gray tones that provide a bright, clean appearance suitable for brightly lit production facilities, outdoor work environments, or when you prefer high-contrast text on bright backgrounds.

Text and interface elements appear in dark colors against the light backgrounds, providing clear legibility and sharp contrast for reading event text, timeline labels, and menu options. Control elements including buttons, input fields, and selection indicators use colors that coordinate with the overall light color scheme while maintaining clear distinction between different interface states such as active, inactive, selected, and disabled.

The light theme may be preferred when working in brightly lit environments where screen glare is minimal, when you find dark text on light backgrounds easier to read for extended periods, or when you prefer the aesthetic of traditional productivity software with bright interface colors.

Dark Theme

The Dark Theme presents the interface with dark background colors and light text, following modern application design trends that reduce eye strain in low-light environments and minimize screen brightness during extended editing sessions. Dark theme backgrounds use black and dark gray tones that create a subdued appearance particularly suited for dimly lit editing suites, late-night production work, or when you prefer reduced screen brightness.

Text and interface elements appear in light colors against the dark backgrounds, providing comfortable legibility without the eye strain that can result from staring at bright white backgrounds for extended periods. Control elements use colors that coordinate with the dark color scheme while maintaining sufficient contrast for clear visibility and interaction.

The dark theme is often preferred by professional editors working in color-graded editing environments where bright screen elements can interfere with color judgment, when working in darkened rooms or during evening and night shifts, or when you find light text on dark backgrounds more comfortable for extended viewing sessions. The dark theme reduces overall screen brightness which can minimize eye fatigue during long editing sessions and reduce the impact of screen light on your sleep cycle when working late hours.

Auto Theme

The Auto Theme option configures Closed Caption Creator to automatically select between light and dark themes based on your operating system's theme preference. This automatic selection ensures that the application matches the overall appearance of your system interface and other applications, creating a cohesive visual environment across your workspace.

When auto theme is enabled, the application monitors your system theme setting and switches between light and dark appearances when your system theme changes. This is particularly useful if you use system-level automatic theme switching that adjusts based on time of day, ambient light sensors, or manual user preference changes at the operating system level.

Auto theme respects your system preferences while ensuring that Closed Caption Creator maintains visual consistency with your broader computing environment. If you regularly switch your system theme between light and dark modes depending on lighting conditions or time of day, auto theme eliminates the need to separately adjust the application theme each time you change your system preferences.

Theme Selection Persistence

Your selected theme preference is saved to local storage and automatically applied when you launch Closed Caption Creator in future sessions. This ensures that your visual preference is consistently maintained without requiring you to reselect your theme each time you begin work. The theme setting is stored independently from other application preferences, allowing you to backup and restore themes separately if needed.

You can change your theme selection at any time during your editing session without affecting your project data or work in progress. Theme changes take effect immediately and do not require application restart or page refresh.

Accessibility Considerations

Theme selection is a personal preference influenced by environmental lighting, visual comfort, and individual accessibility needs. Users with light sensitivity or certain visual conditions may find dark themes more comfortable for extended use, while users who require maximum contrast for legibility may prefer light themes.

The application maintains appropriate contrast ratios in both light and dark themes to ensure text legibility and interface element visibility according to accessibility standards. If you find that either theme does not provide sufficient contrast or legibility for your needs, you may need to adjust your operating system accessibility settings or display settings to achieve your preferred visual configuration.
