Workspaces Menu
The Workspaces Menu provides layout configuration options that control how the main interface panels are arranged on your screen. Different workspace layouts optimize screen real estate for different hardware configurations, monitor orientations, and workflow preferences. Selecting an appropriate workspace layout can significantly improve your efficiency and comfort during extended editing sessions.
Default Workspace
The Default Workspace arranges the interface with the video player and preview panels on the left side of the screen and the event list and editing panels on the right side. This left-to-right layout follows a natural reading pattern for most western languages and positions the video controls near the event list for quick access to both visual reference and text editing.
The default layout is optimized for standard widescreen monitors in landscape orientation and provides a balanced distribution of screen space between the video preview, timeline controls, and event editing areas. This layout works well for most captioning and subtitle workflows where you need simultaneous access to video playback and text editing without excessive window switching or scrolling.
Default Reverse Workspace
The Default Reverse Workspace inverts the standard left-to-right arrangement by placing the event list and editing panels on the left side and the video player and preview panels on the right side. This reversed layout accommodates different viewing preferences and can be more comfortable for users who prefer to have their primary editing focus on the left portion of the screen.
The reversed layout maintains the same panel relationships and functionality as the default workspace but mirrors the positioning. This option is useful when working with multiple monitors where you may want the video display positioned closer to a reference monitor or when your preferred hand position for mouse or trackpad use makes the reversed layout more ergonomic.
Vertical Stack Workspace
The Vertical Stack Workspace arranges interface panels in a top-to-bottom configuration with the video player and preview area in the upper portion of the screen and the event list and editing controls in the lower portion. This layout is optimized for portrait-oriented displays, tall monitors, or multi-monitor setups where vertical screen space exceeds horizontal space.
The vertical arrangement provides maximum width for both the video display and the event list, which can be advantageous when working with ultra-wide video formats or when you need to see more of your event list simultaneously without scrolling. This layout is particularly effective on laptop displays with limited horizontal resolution where the vertical stacking eliminates the need for narrow, cramped columns.
Ultrawide Workspace
The Ultrawide Workspace is designed specifically for ultrawide monitors with aspect ratios of 21:9 or wider. This layout takes advantage of the extended horizontal space by distributing interface panels across the full width of the display, allowing you to view the video player, timeline, event list, and editing panels simultaneously without overlap or hidden elements.
The ultrawide configuration provides the most comprehensive view of all interface components at once, minimizing the need for panel switching or scrolling during your editing workflow. This layout is ideal for professional editing environments where screen real estate is abundant and you want to maximize the amount of information visible at any given time.
Workspace Switching Behavior
When you switch between workspace layouts, the system temporarily disables the timeline panel to allow for proper repositioning of interface elements. The timeline is automatically re-enabled after a brief delay once the new layout has been applied. If you have media loaded, the video player source is refreshed to ensure proper rendering in the new layout configuration.
Your selected workspace layout preference is saved to local storage and automatically applied when you launch Closed Caption Creator in future sessions. This ensures that your preferred interface configuration is consistently available without requiring manual selection each time you begin work.
Choosing the Right Workspace
Select your workspace layout based on your display configuration and workflow priorities. The default workspace suits most standard widescreen monitors and provides a familiar left-to-right workflow. Consider the reversed layout if you prefer your primary editing focus on the left side of your screen. Choose the vertical stack layout when working on tall or portrait-oriented displays where vertical space is more abundant than horizontal space. Select the ultrawide layout when working with ultrawide monitors where you want to maximize simultaneous visibility of all interface components.
You can switch workspace layouts at any time during your editing session without affecting your project data or losing work in progress. Experiment with different layouts to find the configuration that best supports your workflow and viewing comfort.
