Table View

Table View is an alternate, spreadsheet-style layout for the same Events you normally see in List View. It shows one Event per row and one field per column, which makes it easier to scan many Events at once, compare timing and metrics across a range, and edit notes, approvals, and other metadata without opening each Event card.

List View and Table View operate on the same Event Group, selection, filters, timeline, and undo history. Switching views does not change your project data β€” only how Events are presented in the Event editor.

Opening Table View

Above the Event List, in the project info bar next to the filter and sort controls, use the view mode toggle:

  • List view β€” the familiar card layout for each Event
  • Table view β€” the grid layout described on this page

When Table View is active, a Columns button appears beside the toggle so you can show, hide, and reorder columns.

Your choice is saved with your local editor preferences and restored the next time you open Closed Caption Creator. Switching between List and Table keeps the current selection and scrolls to the selected Event.

There is no dedicated keyboard shortcut for the List / Table toggle. Selection, filters, and the Event number navigator continue to work the same way in both modes.

Columns

Each column maps to an Event field or a computed metric. The # column (Event number) is always visible and pinned on the left.

Shown by default

ColumnDescription
#Event index (0001, 0002, …). Always pinned.
ErrorWarning icon when realtime validation fails. Hover for the error messages. Rows with errors are tinted.
Start / EndEvent in and out timecodes. Editable.
DurationComputed duration from start to end. Read-only.
CPSCharacters per second. Read-only.
AlignText alignment (Left / Center / Right).

VVertical position (Top / Middle / Bottom). Custom numeric positions display as a value.
StyleCaption display style (Pop-On, Paint-On, Roll-Up 2/3/4).
TextCaption or subtitle text.

Hidden by default

Enable these from the Columns button or by right-clicking a column header:

For more on notes, approvals, tags, and forced narrative, see Notes & Replies, Approvals, Tag Management, and Forced Narrative Subtitles.

Customizing columns

Click the Columns button (visible only in Table View) to open the column picker. Check a column to show it, uncheck to hide it, and drag rows to change order. The # column stays pinned and cannot be hidden.

You can also right-click a column header and use the header menu to show or hide columns. Column widths can be resized by dragging the header edges.

Visibility and order are saved with your local editor preferences on the same device.

Editing in the table

Most editable cells update immediately and participate in the normal undo / redo history. If the Event Group is locked, edits are blocked and a warning is shown.

Text

Double-click a Text cell, or focus the cell and press Enter or F2, to open the inline Quill editor β€” the same rich text editor used in List View. Apply bold, italic, underline, and other formatting as usual. Press Esc to finish editing.

Notes and Reply

Notes and Reply use a multi-line textarea editor so long comments wrap while you type, and the row grows with the content.

  • Enter inserts a new line
  • Ctrl+Enter (Windows) or Cmd+Enter (Mac) saves and closes the editor
  • Click outside the cell to save
  • Esc cancels the edit

You can still edit notes from the QuickTools Notes panel or the inline notes dialog in List View. See Notes & Replies.

Timecodes

Start and End show an editable timecode field. Type a value and press Enter or leave the field to commit. Use the clock control to stamp the current playhead time. Arrow keys nudge by one frame. With video lock enabled, clicking a timecode seeks the player to that time.

Alignment, position, style, and flags

  • Align, H, and V use quick Left / Center / Right (or Top / Middle / Bottom) controls
  • Style, Forced, and Approved use dropdown selectors
  • Notes Check and Reply Check are checkboxes

Read-only columns

Duration, CPS, WPM, Original, Speakers, Voice, Recipients, Tags, and # are display-only in Table View. Edit speakers, tags, and voices from their usual panels and managers.

Selection, wrapping, and errors

  • Multi-select works the same as in List View (click, Shift+click, Ctrl/Cmd+click). Selection is shared with the timeline and filters.
  • With video lock on, selecting a single Event seeks the playhead to that Event’s start.
  • Selected rows are highlighted.
  • Rows with realtime validation errors show a light error tint and an icon in the Error column. See Realtime Error Detection.
  • Row height grows with wrapped content. Text, Notes, and Reply wrap so longer content stays readable without clipping.

When to use Table View

Table View is especially useful when you need to:

  • Review timing, CPS, and duration across many Events in one pass
  • Edit or clear notes and replies during a QA review
  • Set approvals, forced flags, or caption styles in bulk by scanning down a column
  • Compare original and translated text side by side (show the Original column)

Use List View when you prefer the full per-Event card layout, speaker-oriented transcript UI, or denser inline controls for a single Event at a time.
