KNP & Automatic Transcription
When you submit an Automatic Transcription job, Closed Caption Creator gives you the option to attach a KNP Guide to the request. When a guide is attached, the terminology it contains is passed to the AI transcription provider as custom vocabulary, giving the engine a strong signal to prefer the exact spellings and forms defined in the guide over its default phonetic guesses. This can meaningfully reduce the word error rate for content that contains proper nouns, specialist terminology, brand names, or uncommon phrases that general speech models are unlikely to recognise accurately out of the box.
Requirements
The KNP guide selector in the Automatic Transcription dialog is only available to team account holders. Individual accounts do not have access to KNP Guides and the field will not appear. Additionally, the KNP guide you intend to apply must already exist and must contain at least the terms that are relevant to the content being transcribed. Submitting a transcription job with an empty guide or a guide unrelated to the media will have no practical effect.
Selecting a guide when submitting a transcription job
To apply a KNP guide to a transcription job, open the Automatic Transcription dialog by selecting the relevant option from the AI Tools menu or toolbar. Inside the dialog, team account holders will see a field labelled KNP Terminology Guide (Optional) beneath the other transcription settings. This field presents a dropdown listing all guides that are accessible to you based on your team account and group membership. Select the guide that corresponds to the content you are transcribing.
Selecting a guide is optional. If the content does not require any specific terminology assistance, you can leave the field blank and the transcription job will proceed without custom vocabulary.
How the guide affects transcription accuracy
Once a guide is selected and the job is submitted, the guide identifier is included in the job configuration that is sent to the transcription service. The service uses the terms in the guide as preferred vocabulary candidates when deciding between competing phonetic interpretations. As a concrete example, a scientific or technical name that a general-purpose speech model would consistently mishear can be transcribed correctly when its exact form is present in the attached guide. Without the guide, the same audio produces an incorrect or approximated spelling that would require manual correction.
Remembered settings
For convenience, the transcription dialog remembers the last KNP guide you selected across sessions. When you open the dialog again, the guide selector will pre-populate with your previous choice. You can change the selection at any time before submitting. All transcription defaults — including the selected guide, provider, and language — are stored locally in your browser session.
